A third person joins the pair, and the matter becomes shared. The card describes an announcement, congratulations, a wedding, a christening, a project wrapped up around a table. It also speaks of the everyday support you can count on: the friends, the colleagues, the people you call with good news and with bad. The joy here is real, but it needs witnesses.
Three of Cups reversed
Reversed, the Three of Cups signals company that costs more than it gives: too many gatherings, a rumor passed along, a third person stepping between two. It can also run the other way: good news with no one to share it, because the circle quietly drifted apart and no one ever said so.
Symbolism
Three women dance with their cups raised so that they touch in the air; they stand in a ring, and each can see the faces of the other two. At their feet lie a pumpkin, grapes and other fruit. The harvest is already in, so there is something to drink to. The ring stays closed: for anyone to join it, someone has to make room.
