Two of Cups upright
The openness of the Ace finally finds a specific person to receive it. The card shows an arrangement between two sides of comparable strength: attraction, a truce, making up after an argument, a partner you sign something important with. This is not about grand passion. It is about balance. Both people reach out at the same moment, and either of them could still pull back.
Two of Cups reversed
Reversed, the Two of Cups is an exchange that has stopped being symmetrical: one drinks while the other pours. It can be a breakup, or the tension after a gesture that never got a reply. It can also be a reconciliation that never quite happens, because each side is waiting for the other to move first and both hold the same grudge.
Symbolism
A woman and a man step toward each other and hold out their cups. Neither stands higher than the other. Above them floats a caduceus with two entwined snakes, topped by a winged lion's head: raw desire brought under an agreement both sides have accepted. In the background, a quiet hill with a house, a sign that something lasting could come from this meeting.
How to read this card in a spread
In the "situation" position, the Two describes a relationship where the terms are fair, even if no one has said them out loud. In the "outcome" position it is an agreement, a contract or a partnership. Next to the Knight of Cups it says the offer will be made openly and accepted; next to the Five of Swords it warns that the reconciliation has a price, and someone at the table is already counting it.
