The Four of Cups describes a state in which nothing hurts, but nothing tastes of anything either. Much depends on whether the spread shows exactly what is being offered, and by whom.

Four of Cups upright
Three cups stand in front of the seated figure, and none of them makes an impression anymore. The card speaks of being tired of what you have: a relationship that works, a job that does not hurt, a comfortable routine that has lost its flavor. The fourth cup is being held out right now: an invitation, an offer, a message. But you do not see it, because you are looking where there is nothing to see.
Four of Cups reversed
Reversed, the Four of Cups usually means the end of that shutdown: the figure looks up and notices what was being offered. It can also mean the withdrawal deepening, a retreat that has gone on so long it has become a habit, with invitations refused in advance so nothing has to be considered at all.
Symbolism
A young man sits under a tree with his arms and legs crossed, eyes cast down. Before him stand three cups in a neat row: everything he has gathered, and none of it moves him anymore. From a cloud on the left, a hand offers a fourth, and he does not register it. Nothing in this scene is under threat. This is not a crisis, only a loss of appetite.
How to read this card in a spread
In the "situation" position, the Four describes a stagnation felt from the inside and usually invisible from the outside. Seen from the side, everything looks fine. In the "obstacle" position it points to your own boredom as the main problem, not to circumstances or to another person. Next to the Ace of Cups it says the offer is real and about to be missed; next to the Eight of Cups it suggests the boredom will ripen into a decision to leave.
Love and relationships
In a relationship: a phase where your partner keeps trying and you answer late and without feeling. If you are single: turning down invitations because you already know "it is not that." The card asks whether the offer is really too weak, or whether your senses have gone dull.
Work and money
Work done correctly and without interest. The Four shows up around an offer of a different role, or a job that passes you by because you cannot be bothered to check the terms. With money, there is no response where a decision is needed: unopened emails, an application never filed.
