Three of Wands: tarot card meaning
The Three of Wands shows the stage after a decision: something has already been sent out into the world and is coming back at its own pace. A lot depends on whether the question is about patience or about scale.

Three of Wands upright
The choice from the Two has been made, and the first effects are already out of arm's reach. The Three describes a situation where the work is done and the result depends on people and markets you cannot control. It is a good moment for widening: contacts beyond your own backyard, collaboration, a market abroad. The card asks for the ability to wait without pulling your hand back.
Three of Wands reversed
Reversed, less comes back than was sent: delays, silence on the other end, a plan cut for too short a distance. Sometimes someone is staring at the horizon while neglecting what is right at their feet. The opposite happens too: the reach is there, but there was not enough capacity to handle it.
Symbolism
A man stands with his back to the viewer, on a rise above a bay, watching ships sail out. He holds one wand; the other two stand planted in the ground beside him, because he no longer needs to guard them. The turned-away figure matters here: the card's attention points outward, toward what is coming back from far away.
How to read this card in a spread
In the "situation" position the Three says the matter is in progress and it is too early to judge. In the "action" position it advises widening the circle: reach out further than you usually do. In the "outcome" position it means growth spread over time, not instant success. Paired with the Eight of Wands the pace jumps sharply; next to the Seven of Cups a suspicion appears that the distance is only imagined.
Love and relationships
A long-distance relationship, an acquaintance ripening more slowly than you would like, or waiting for an answer that will come in its own time. The card says it is worth widening your field of view to new people and new places instead of staring at one thread nobody has replied to.
Work and money
Offers sent, resumes mailed out, a project handed in for review, talks about working with a partner abroad. The Three likes scaling a proven idea and contact with a market bigger than the one you have had. With money it foretells income spread over time. Check whether the budget can carry the gap between doing the work and getting paid.
Advice
Do not chase what you have already sent. Instead, add one new direction: a contact, a market or an audience outside the circle you have been circling for months.
