The Tower: tarot card meaning
The Tower describes the moment when a structure built on a false assumption stops holding. The collapse is sudden and loud, and its meaning depends on whether the truth arrives from outside or you are the one who says it.

The Tower upright
The truth comes out all at once and without warning, and with it something built on a bad foundation falls apart: an arrangement at work, a version of the relationship, a story about yourself. This card does not destroy what stands on solid ground. It destroys what held up only because no one looked underneath. The blow is short, the consequences can be costly, but what remains is finally real. The relief arrives later than the fear and usually catches you more off guard.
The Tower reversed
Reversed, the blast is postponed or hidden: the cracks are known, and the matter carries on anyway, because ending it seems more expensive than pretending. It can also be a crisis lived through on the inside, without witnesses. What collapses is a belief, not a situation. Delaying rarely cancels the blow; more often it raises the price and takes away what control you had left over when it happens.
Symbolism
Lightning strikes the top of the tower and knocks the crown off it: what was on top and passed for certain comes down. Fire bursts from the windows, two figures fall head first, and points of light hang in the air. The building itself stands on bare rock, with no foundation sunk into the ground. Number sixteen comes right after The Devil. What could not be resolved consciously gets resolved from outside.
How to read this card in a spread
As the "situation" it describes an event that has just overturned the order of things: a disclosure, a break, a decision made by someone else. In the "action" position it usually means it is better to tell the truth yourself than to wait for it to come out at a worse moment. As the "outcome" it points to an ending that is sharp but clearing. Next to Death it reinforces the closure and removes any hope of return; next to The Star it shows what comes afterwards: a calm rebuilding on cleared ground.
Love and relationships
A disclosure, an argument after which the words cannot be taken back, or one person's sudden decision. The card rarely describes a minor clash; it describes the moment after which the relationship does not return to its previous form. Sometimes what collapses is not the relationship itself but the idea of it, and that can be the most useful part.
Work and money
A sudden restructuring, the loss of a major client, an error discovered in the project, or a departure no one planned. With money it points to an expense that upends the budget, and to a financial plan built on the assumption that nothing will change. The size of the losses here depends on the size of the safety cushion.
Advice
Say yourself what is going to come out anyway, and secure the basics: money, documents, a roof over your head. Do not rebuild the structure on the same assumption.
