Page of Cups: tarot card meaning

The Page of Cups is the beginning of an education in feeling: someone speaks first, without much practice at it. The card reads one way as a person in the spread, and another as a message on its way.

Page of Cups upright

It usually points to a message touching something private: a confession, an invitation, a call from someone who has been silent for a long time. As a person, this is someone emotionally young, sincere, easily moved, with no strategy at all. The Page also describes your own readiness to try something creative with no guarantee it will work. The fish leaps out of the cup without warning: the idea and the emotion arrive uninvited.

Page of Cups reversed

Reversed, the Page of Cups can be a hypersensitivity in which every neutral remark gets taken personally. It can also be a confession withdrawn at the last moment, or phrased so vaguely that the other person never recognizes it. Sometimes it speaks of an idea abandoned before anyone had a chance to judge it.

Symbolism

A young figure in a blue tunic with a floral pattern holds a cup, and a fish leans out of it and looks the figure straight in the eye. Behind them the sea ripples: emotions in motion, but not dangerous. The outfit is too festive for the occasion: someone has taken this seriously, without knowing yet how to behave in it.

How to read this card in a spread

In the "situation" position, the Page describes an early, uncertain stage of an emotional matter, in which nothing is decided yet. In the "action" position it says plainly: speak first, even clumsily and unprepared. Next to the Knight of Cups it suggests that shy interest will turn into a concrete proposal; next to the King of Swords it warns that your sincerity will land on someone who judges it coolly.

Love and relationships

First steps: a message from someone new, flirting with no plan, a confession made awkwardly and therefore believable. In a relationship it means lightness returning: jokes, small gestures, a conversation with no weight on it. It can also hint at a pregnancy in the family or among people close to you.

Work and money

An internship, a first job, a project that teaches you something new. The Page favors ideas put forward despite a lack of experience, and learning a trade from the ground up. With money: small sums, a first freelance job, irregular income. Agree on the rate up front instead of counting on someone's goodwill.

Advice

Send the one message you cannot phrase perfectly, in its unpolished version. Sincerity will work better here than a well-built sentence.
