Nine of Cups upright
The fulfillment here is private: the goal you asked for gets delivered. The card points to contentment, comfort, good food, bills paid, satisfaction with yourself. The figure sits pleased in front of his row of cups. He has all of them, and no one beside him. The Nine measures happiness by its own yardstick, and that is what sets it apart from the Ten.
Nine of Cups reversed
Reversed, the Nine of Cups shows a wish only half fulfilled, or badly phrased: you got exactly what you asked for, and it turned out smaller than it looked from a distance. It can be excess: food, spending, comfort used as an anesthetic. Sometimes it means showing off an achievement instead of actually enjoying it.
Symbolism

How to read this card in a spread
In the "outcome" position, the Nine is a clear "yes": the matter ends exactly the way you wanted, with no side costs. In the "situation" position it describes a comfort that is easy to stay in far longer than is good for you. Next to the Ten of Cups it shows that the satisfaction will stop being private and be shared with someone; next to the Four of Cups it warns that this same contentment is about to go stale.
Love and relationships
If you are single: a good stretch on your own terms, where a relationship would be a bonus, not a gap. In a relationship: pleasure, a trip together, an evening with no unfinished business. The card does ask, though, whether the enjoyment is shared or only received.
Work and money
A raise, a well-negotiated contract, a project closed at a profit. The Nine favors asking about money directly, because your position is strong. Go easy on the momentum spending. After a good month it is easy to settle into a level the next month cannot sustain.
