The Magician: tarot card meaning
The Magician is the card of execution: an idea stops being a conversation and becomes an act. How strongly it reads depends on whether the spread shows focus on one matter or scatter across several.

The Magician upright
The skills are already in stock, and the card asks only whether they will be used deliberately, because that is what turns an idea into action. The Magician receives nothing from outside: all four tools have been on the table from the start, and the difference is made by choosing one task and seeing it through. In a spread it usually means a matter where neither competence nor opportunity is lacking, only the decision to begin. It can also signal that conditions are unusually favorable for the moment and will not stay that way for long.
The Magician reversed
Reversed, that agency slides toward manipulation, talent spread thin across five parallel projects, or promises with nothing behind them. Sometimes the pitch is polished and there is no delivery underneath; sometimes someone knows a great deal and for exactly that reason never starts anything. It is worth checking who in this situation talks better than they act.
Symbolism
On the table lie a cup, a pentacle, a sword and a wand: the full set of the four suits of the Minor Arcana, the whole available toolkit. One hand raises a wand toward the sky, the other points at the ground: intention is meant to come down into something concrete. A lemniscate hovers above his head, and a serpent swallowing its own tail circles his waist. Roses and lilies grow around him, desire and pure intent. As number one, The Magician is the first deliberate move after the shapeless start of The Fool.
How to read this card in a spread
In the "situation" position, The Magician shows a setup where everything needed is already available and the matter is still stalled. In the "action" position it recommends one thing done today, in the open and to completion, instead of a plan for the whole quarter. As an "outcome" it speaks of a result that depends directly on the work put in, not on circumstances. Beside the Eight of Pentacles it points to craft and repetition; beside the Seven of Swords it asks you to check whether skill is turning into a trick.
Love and relationships
Here a lot depends on the first move. Write, invite, say plainly that you care. The Magician describes not so much a feeling as the moment someone finally does something about it. In a relationship it points to a couple that could change something but keeps postponing the important conversation. Watch out for charm with nothing standing behind it.
Work and money
A good card for launching a business, an offer, a presentation, or a negotiation where preparation and the way you present your case are what count. It suggests taking stock of your own strengths before you ask for a raise. With money: income earned actively, from a specific skill, not from counting on a lucky break.
Advice
Choose one tool you already know how to use and apply it this week to one specific matter. Put off learning the next thing until that one is moving.
