Someone handles the matter outside the official channel: takes what they consider theirs and leaves before anyone can object. Sometimes this is cunning used sensibly, meaning avoiding a clash that cannot be won head-on. More often, though, the card points to a version of events trimmed so that nobody asks the awkward question. Two swords stay in the camp: something is left unfinished.
Seven of Swords reversed
Reversed, the Seven of Swords usually means the thing comes to light: someone counts the silverware, checks the accounts, compares two versions of the story. It can also be a confession and the return of what was taken. Less often: giving up on your own scheme halfway through, because keeping the story straight cost more than it paid.
Symbolism
A man slips out of a camp carrying five swords gripped by the blades, leaving two planted in the ground. He glances over his shoulder and walks on tiptoe, even though people and banners can be seen by the tents in the background. Nobody is chasing him; all the secrecy is his decision, not a necessity. Gripping the blades cuts him all by itself.
How to read this card in a spread
In the "situation" position this card signals that you do not have the full version of events. Ask about the details nobody volunteered. As the "action" it recommends strategy and discretion, but warns against a shortcut you will later have to explain. As the "outcome" it usually means: got away with it, at the cost of trust. Next to the Queen of Swords it has no chance, because she spots the inconsistency instantly.
Love and relationships
Someone is not telling you everything: deleted messages, evenings described in vague terms, an acquaintance kept on the side. It is not always about cheating; sometimes it is about avoiding a conversation by quietly handling one's own affairs. If you are single, the card suggests checking whether the person you have met talks about themselves in facts or only in impressions.
Work and money
Someone else's idea presented as your own, a project run without the team's knowledge, a client served on the side after hours. With money: a fee hidden in a contract, or an expense you have not mentioned to your roommate or partner. The card advises reading the fine print before you sign anything.
